Lake Bolsena - Jewel in the Heart of Italy

Lake Vico

Places to See

Lake Vico nestles in the Cimini hills that rise up from the plains to the south of Viterbo. What is special about the area is that it is a largely unspoilt oasis in the middle of an otherwise agricultural region. The nature reserve is almost entirely wooded, with mature oak woodland dropping down to a crystal clear lake. Some of the flat land is farmed but for the most part it is left to grow wild.

About an hour's drive from Bolsena, it makes a splendid place to picnic or take a leisurely lunch at one of the few secluded restaurants. Combine this with a visit to Villa Lante or Villa Farnese and you have a perfect day out.
